Gremio Lusitano Connecticut League Team Wins Playoffs

Wins championship first year competing

Gremio Lusitano hoisted their first championship for the 2013/14 Connecticut Soccer League playoffs in their first year competing.  They upended a strong Glastonbury Celtic team at Tunxis Mead Park 2-1, which saw Western Mass Pioneers head coach Federico Molinari and Scott Strycharz both scoring for the Gremio.

“It is an amazing feeling winning the playoffs and getting this trophy” commented head coach Jorge Ferreira.  “I’m proud of our guys for fighting to win this for the team and for the Gremio Lusitano Club.”

Gremio Lusitano finished second in the standings behind HNK Croatia with six wins and two losses.  HNK CT Croatia was upset by Glastonbury in the playoffs, which enabled the #2 seed Gremio to face a #5 seed for the championship.

“Glastonbury played us tough” stated Federico Molinari. “We wanted to play HNK CT Croatia because they beat us 3-1 earlier in the season, but we had to fight for this win today”
